Description

VocAlign 6 Pro still does the same core job: it lines up one audio signal with another, matching timing, pitch or both. The biggest shift in this version is workflow — SmartAlign now decides which parts need alignment on its own, and Arm Capture All grabs every track with one click. It makes the whole process feel less like a forensic task.

Insert on the dub, feed the guide to its side-chain

You usually insert it on the track you want to fix — the dub — and feed the guide track into its side-chain. That guide is typically the lead vocal, but it works just as well with a DI guitar or a DI bass feeding an amped version. Tightness control lets you dial in how rigidly the dub snaps to the guide. For big stacks, process groups keep multiple instances locked together so you do not have to tweak each one separately.

Time, pitch or both

SmartPitch handles pitch correction inside the same plugin. You can align timing without touching pitch, or tighten both at once. The resizable interface helps on a busy screen, and unlimited Undo means you can experiment without committing early. Worth it if you stack vocals or double instruments and want them tight without editing for hours.

Lock eight doubles as a first pass before touching a fader

Pro mixers with tight deadlines will use it as a first pass on stacked vocals — get eight doubles locked in before they even touch a fader. Dialogue editors who fix ADR on feature-length projects benefit from SmartAlign not wasting time on sections that were already in sync. It is not just for vocals either. If you double-track bass with a DI and a mic’d amp, VocAlign pulls the two performances together so the low end stays solid rather than flamming.

Solo artists who record their own harmonies at home get a lot out of it too, especially if they tend to drift slightly between takes. The plugin does the grunt work while they keep the raw feel of a real performance.

Load a preset, then raise Tightness to soften the result

A few habits save time early on.

1. Start with a preset, then back off. The alignment presets are useful but can sound robotic on softer passages. Load a preset, let it do its thing, then raise the Tightness control only until the flamming disappears.
2. Check the sync points. Before you commit to an alignment across a whole track, drop a couple of sync points on the guide. It keeps consonants and breath attacks from smearing.
3. Group early. If you are aligning a stack of four or more dubs, set up a process group straight away. Changing one instance changes them all, so you avoid a late-night session where you realise track three was set differently.
4. Use SmartPitch sparingly at first. Run it on one phrase, not the whole take. It is easy to over-correct and lose the character of a slightly sharp harmony. Formant shifting helps keep things natural when transposing, but small moves sound best.
5. Keep the guide clean. A guide track with bleed or heavy reverb confuses the algorithm. Dry and tight is the rule.

If macOS blocks the plugin after install, allow it in System Settings > Privacy & Security before you launch your DAW.
