Autodesk Flame for macOS
Description
Flame 2027.1 runs on macOS Sonoma 14 or later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs, and wants 20 GB free for download and install. Machine learning recovers scene depth live and builds 3D relief maps, which saves a lot of hand-drawn mattes.
Finishing — the final processing of an edit, where grade, conform and last-moment fixes lock in before delivery.
MasterGrade — a colour workspace with three modes tuned for video, log and linear colour spaces. The mode you pick changes how the lift, gamma and gain controls map to the image data.
Colour-space tracking — each clip carries its own colour metadata from source to screen. When you pull a ProRes RAW clip into MediaHub, Flame reads the colour space and keeps it through the comp, so a grade applied to a log plate stays true when rendered.
Isolate tool — new in 2027.1. It pulls a subject from a background in one step by estimating scene depth on the fly. Good for quick beauty work or a fast garbage matte that doesn't need to go to Batch.
SIP must be off before you begin
Do I need System Integrity Protection off? Yes. The package disables it as part of setup. If you run other software that depends on SIP, plan around that before you start.
Is an autodesk flame download realistic on a laptop? It runs on Apple silicon and Intel Macs, but 20 GB of free space is the minimum for the installer alone. A machine with 32 GB of RAM and a decent GPU will save you a lot of waiting during depth recovery passes.
Will it work without a reference monitor? For comp and finishing work, you can get by on a good display. For colour decisions that go to broadcast, a calibrated monitor over a supported video I/O device is the safer route. The updated AJA and Blackmagic drivers in this release help there.
What about Autodesk Flame crack files floating around? Stick to the package as it comes. If you're running a cracked build, make sure your GPU drivers and CUDA toolkit match the version the release expects — otherwise the ML tools and Connected Conform workflow will fall over, and you lose the colour-space tracking that makes the 2027 line worth using.
First days with Flame
Start with a short sequence, not a full conform. Pull a few ProRes RAW clips into MediaHub, check that colour-space metadata survives the import, then run one Isolate pass on a medium shot. That tells you more about your machine than any benchmark.
Get the Batch environment open early. It is node-based and procedural, and most of the ML tools feed into it cleanly. Build a tiny tree — source, depth recovery, grade, output — before you touch a timeline.
If you work with shared media, set up Connected Conform on a test project first. Sorting and sync across sequences works best when the media is organised before the edits pile up.
Match MasterGrade mode to your plates immediately
- Set MasterGrade to the mode that matches your plates. Video mode for Rec.709, logarithmic for log footage, linear for EXR and similar.
- Turn on clip colour-space tracking in preferences before importing anything. Retroactive fixes are slower.
- Point Flame at your AJA or Blackmagic device in the video I/O settings if you have one, even for monitoring only.
- Raise the autosave interval. Depth recovery and relief map generation can run for minutes, and you do not want a crash to cost you an hour of work.
What’s new
Adds the Isolate tool for one-click subject extraction. Adds ProRes RAW support in MediaHub. Adds OpenTimelineIO support for timeline interchange.
Requirements
- macOS Sonoma 14 or later
- Apple silicon or Intel Mac
