Hold look behind and tap both pedals to whip the car around

Several shortcuts aren't advertised on the controls screen. In a car, hold look behind then tap accelerate and handbrake together. Wei Shen does a J-turn that reverses your direction in one motion. Useful when a chase sends you the wrong way down a one-way street.

On foot, press sprint and grab near a low wall. If the geometry allows it, Wei vaults clean over instead of stopping dead. It's the difference between a smooth escape and an unplanned brawl with three Triad thugs.

The melee system has a hidden counter window. After you unlock the Disarm upgrade, a heavy enemy's overhand swing can be turned against them if you tap counter just as the blade reaches its highest point. The game never explains the timing. Get it right once and you'll read every armed opponent differently from then on.

Karaoke parlours serve no story purpose, but completing a song with a high score refills your face meter faster than a food stall. Pay attention to the rhythm bar, not the lyrics.

Runs on Apple Silicon via Rosetta 2 without complaint

Does it run on an M1 or M2 Mac? Yes. The game is Intel-only x86 64-bit, but it launched without complaint on an M1 MacBook Air under macOS Sonoma during testing. Rosetta 2 handles the translation quietly. Just don't expect it to be a featherweight — the 20 GB install footprint is non-negotiable.

Is the language locked to my system setting? No. Right-click the app in Applications, choose Show Package Contents, then open Contents/Resources/activated.ini. Change Language=english to Language=russian or any of the six other supported options. Voice audio stays English regardless.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas offers more vehicle variety and a wider map, but its melee combat is essentially one animation loop. Sleeping Dogs makes hand-to-hand the centrepiece. You'll disarm a chef, shove him into a freezer, and leave through the back door before his friends notice — none of which San Andreas models.

Mafia II shares the undercover-cop tension, but its action leans on cover shooting. Sleeping Dogs treats guns as a temporary power-up. Ammo is scarce, and the moment you drop a pistol, you're back to fists and footwork. That keeps the power curve flatter. You never graduate to an unstoppable arsenal; you stay one bad fall from a restart.
