Description

The current build, version 1.4.6, is a fix-up release that tidies loose ends after the Leader Pass. Some leader abilities introduced in that pass were rebalanced, so a few opponents now play closer to their historical reputations.

You need macOS 11.7.10 or later, a 64-bit processor and 6 GB of RAM. The game runs on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. A GPU with at least 1 GB of its own memory is mandatory — integrated graphics on older machines will struggle.

It's a proper Mac port. Frame rates on M-series chips are steady at moderate settings, though late-game turns with large maps will test any machine. Keyboard and mouse work exactly as you'd expect for a turn-based strategy game.

The Platinum Edition bundles the base game, six DLC packs, Rise and Fall, and Gathering Storm. You get the full arc of exploring new lands, researching technologies, and dealing with leaders who pursue goals based on their historical preferences.

Scouting too late invites a barbarian raid by turn 30

Scouting with a single warrior while your cities pump out builders before turn 30. Barbarian scouts will spot the gap, sprint back to their camp, and a raid spawns before you have a second slinger. Two scouts out early, or a scout and a slinger, gives you map knowledge and keeps camps from boiling over.

Ignoring the housing cap. A city stops growing hard at one below the limit, and new players often queue another district instead of a granary or a farm triangle. If the city details panel shows "housing: full," your next two production choices should fix that.

Accepting every delegation and embassy from neighbours who are already massing units near your border. The small gold boost feels polite, but it also raises their diplomatic visibility — which gives their units a combat bonus on higher difficulties. Refusing an embassy from a known warmonger costs nothing.

Hold shift-enter to skip twenty turns of unit prompts

  • Shift-Enter forces the turn to end. If a unit still has movement points but you want it to stay put, this skips the "unit needs orders" prompt. Useful when a fortified garrison doesn't need to move for twenty turns.
  • City queue pins. Right-click a city's production button to pin a multi-tech queue without opening the full city screen every time. The queue runs until you unpin it or resources change.
  • Map search. The magnifying glass above the minimap isn't just for finding resources. Type "iron" to highlight every tile, or type an opponent's name to centre the camera on their capital.
  • Lens shortcuts. Number keys 1 through 6 jump straight to settler, builder, religious, and other overlay views. Quicker than hunting for the tiny lens buttons next to the minimap.
  • Rename units. Right-click a unit's name in its panel. A swordsman called "III Cohort" is easier to track across a continent than a generic label.

The Mac App Store version is single-player and local multiplayer only — no online matchmaking. That matters if you grabbed the sid meier's civilization vi torrent mac scene release expecting cross-platform games with Steam friends. It won't connect.

Auto-save interval defaults to every turn, and the game keeps the last ten. If a runaway religious victory blindsides you, reloading five turns back and buying an inquisitor usually salvages the run.
