Description

The Omega Attack changes everything. It's a slower, heavier cast that can clear a room if you time it right, and it signals exactly what kind of sequel this is. Supergiant hasn't just bolted on more content; they've rewired the combat for players who treat each run as a lesson.

You'll get on with it if you like losing for the right reasons

This is early-access software, released May 2024, so rough edges are part of the deal. The Underworld feels deeper and stranger than before, with Melinoë's witchcraft kit rewarding methodical play over button-mashing. If you finished the original Hades and still jump back in for a heat run, the shift in rhythm here will click. You're the sort who reads patch notes and doesn't mind a boss fight that hasn't found its final form yet.

You might bounce off it if you want a finished story

Supergiant builds games in the open, and version 1.143476 is no exception. Voice acting is complete in English, and the interface supports a long list of languages from Russian to Japanese, but the narrative arcs are still being stitched together. If you need a tidy ending and full voice-over for every side character before you commit, bookmark this one and come back at 1.0.

Leaning too hard on dash after the first game

Coming straight from the first game, most people lean too hard on the dash. Melinoë doesn't have Zagreus's double-dash by default, and spamming it leaves you standing in an AoE with no escape. Walk more, dash less, and treat the sprint as a repositioning tool, not a panic button.

The other classic slip is ignoring the Arcana card that boosts your cast regen. Omega Attacks eat magic fast, and without that card you'll spend half each chamber waiting for the blue bar to refill. Unlock it early and keep it equipped.

Some players grab every boon that sparkles instead of building towards a duo. The Olympian roster is bigger now, and the game rewards a focused build far more than a messy collection of rare icons. Pick your core god by the second biome and commit.

Swapping keepsakes and grabbing the Sister Blades

You launch the game on a quiet evening, the Mac mini barely warm. The Crossroads hub loads and you spend two minutes swapping keepsakes and checking which weapon has the night's bonus—tonight it's the Sister Blades, so you grab the Aspect of Artemis and a cast-focused Arcana spread.

First chamber: a handful of shades, easy. You're fishing for a cast boon, and Zeus shows up early. His chain-lightning effect on your Omega Cast turns the next few rooms into a light show. By the time you reach Hecate you're dodging her phase-two patterns with half a health bar and no Death Defiances left, but the lightning finishes her off.

You clear the first guardian, pick up a hammer that extends your cast range, and pause for a sip of tea. The run feels solid. Down into Oceanus, the Rift of Thessaly is where it usually falls apart—too many armoured foes, not enough crowd control—and sure enough, a pack of elite satyrs corners you three chambers from the boss door. You die.

Back at the Crossroads, you spend your gathered resources on an Arcana upgrade, chat to Nemesis for a new prophecy, and queue up the next run. Thirty-five minutes, one good boon combo discovered, one lesson learned about positioning. That's a session.
