Description

One destroyed mech suit. That is what starts Robert Robertson's new career as a dispatcher.

Setting — Modern-day Los Angeles, seen through the lens of a struggling superhero agency.

Genre — Workplace comedy. The writers behind Tales from the Borderlands bring the same sharp timing here.

Core loop — You assign missions, then watch your choices ripple out. Heroes have traits, weaknesses and proper backstories. Ignore those and you lose their trust.

The team — A crew of former supervillains. Their skills can be improved, but old habits are hard to shake. Loyalty is earned, not given.

Languages — Interface supports English, German, Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese.

Turn on subtitles before your first shift—the voice cast talks fast

Open the options before your first shift. Two defaults are worth switching immediately.

Turn subtitles on — even if you play in English. The voice cast (Aaron Paul, Laura Bailey, Jeffrey Wright) delivers lines fast, and background chatter during emergencies can bury a joke or a mission detail. The text buffer keeps you from missing anything.

Drop the music volume to about 70% and leave dialogue at full. The score is solid but it sits on top of speech in busy scenes. A quick tweak here saves you from riding the slider mid-crisis when two heroes are arguing over a radio channel.

A visual novel and a management game, with no half tacked on

Is this a visual novel or a management game? Both, and neither half feels tacked on. The story unfolds through conversations and character moments between missions. Then the strategy map takes over — you scan emergencies across the city, match heroes to threats, and deal with the fallout. If you skip dialogue you miss context that explains why a hero refuses an assignment. If you ignore stats you lose people. The game expects you to pay attention to both sides.

Does it run properly on Apple Silicon? Yes. Tested on an M4 Mac mini without issues. The Wineskin wrapper does the heavy lifting. If the app throws an error on first launch, run the Fix file inside the disk image — that sorts it.

How long is a full playthrough? Around the length of a short Telltale season. Replay value comes from different team compositions. Assigning the wrong hero to a mission does not end the game — it changes who trusts you later. That makes a second run feel genuinely different.

The agency phone rings with a plasma-armed robber in Koreatown

The agency phone rings. A convenience store robbery near Koreatown, but the suspect has some kind of plasma thrower. You open the strategic map — three emergencies are flashing at once. Downtown can wait. The robbery gets priority.

You pull up the roster. One hero is still recovering from last mission's injuries. Another has a weakness for fire-based weapons, so plasma is a bad match. That leaves the ex-pyrokinetic with the sarcasm problem. Her stats fit. You assign her.

The screen shifts to a comic-panel sequence. She arrives, makes a dry comment about the décor, and things go sideways. A dialogue wheel appears. Your response lands badly — she still handles the situation, but her loyalty dips. Two other missions resolve in the background, their outcomes shaped by who you ignored earlier.

Back at the office, a cutscene kicks in. Jeffrey Wright's character delivers a deadpan debrief. You check the improvement screen, spend a skill point on the pyro's crowd control, and save before the next call comes in. Thirty minutes gone. You meant to stop after one mission.
