Poppy Playtime - Chapter 4 for macOS
Description
Doey the Doughman is one of the new faces. He is also a good test for whether this chapter is for you.
Built for set-piece chases, not open wandering
A player who wants a focused, scare-driven story with clear goals. You are here for set-piece chases and a world that keeps its secrets close, not for open-ended exploration.
Difficulty spikes that test patience as much as nerves
If you need a game with forgiving checkpoints or a quiet moment to breathe, this is not that. The difficulty spikes are real, and some sequences will test your patience as much as your nerves.
First-person horror driven by escaping factory threats
It is a first-person adventure with a heavy lean into horror. The GrabPack tool returns for puzzles, but the pace is driven by escaping the new threats inside the factory.
Hold the fire button to stay tethered for timed swings
The GrabPack has a quiet trick that isn't obvious at first. Hold the fire button down after latching onto a surface and you stay tethered. Release it and you snap back. Useful for timing a swing over a gap when the floor is anything but solid.
Doey's sections let you crawl through vents faster if you crouch first, then sprint. The game never mentions it. You will thank yourself during a particular chase about forty minutes in.
Look for yellow handprints on machinery. They mark positions where the GrabPack can pull you up rather than just pull something towards you. Missing one means looping a whole room while something breathes down your neck.
Switch off motion blur to stop it fighting the darkness
Two things in the graphics menu matter more than they should. Motion blur is on by default and it fights the darkness in exactly the wrong way — switch it off. Depth of field blurs background threats during scripted sequences, which sounds atmospheric until you can't see what is coming. Turn that down to low or off.
Audio defaults to full dynamic range, but the mix favours ambient rumble over footstep cues. Set the audio mode to Headphones even if you use speakers. The positional sound tightens up and you will hear a threat before you see it.
If the game stutters during a chase on Apple Silicon, try dropping shadow quality one notch before touching resolution. The Wineskin build handles shadows less gracefully than other settings, and the visual difference in the factory gloom is negligible.
