Keep Driving for macOS
Description
It's for people who like the idea of an RPG where the random encounters aren't orcs, but hitchhikers with baggage and a timing belt that's about to snap. Set in the early 2000s, you manage a car and its occupants across a pixel-art world that rebuilds itself each journey.
Good for
- Picking up strangers with distinct personalities and seeing how their stories play out.
- Decisions that actually fork the road — your choices shape the route and the ending.
- Tinkering with a car you can upgrade, tune, and patch up when it breaks.
Keep in mind
- Apple Silicon only. The developer tested on an M4 Mac mini. Intel Macs are not supported.
- Voices are English-only, though the interface supports eleven languages including Russian, Japanese, and Portuguese.
- It's a slow game by design, not a racer. The pace matches the scenery.
Limp into a garage and swap your first car
Don't get attached to the first car you buy. The real fun starts once you've limped into a garage with a smoking engine and swapped it for something with a bit more grunt. Spend the first hour just driving — you'll learn what breaks most often on your route and which hitchhikers are worth the detour.
Pick up everyone at least once. Even the ones who look like trouble. Some of the best stories come from the people you almost left by the roadside. And if a hitchhiker asks to take the wheel, let them. The consequences are rarely dull.
Save your cash for a decent toolkit before you blow it on neon underglow. A breakdown in the middle of nowhere with no spanners is a quick way to end a run early. You can always make the car look ridiculous on the next trip.
Keep an eye on the fuel gauge. The game won't nag you, and pushing a dead car to the next town is exactly as slow as it sounds.
A road trip takes one to four hours
How long is a single playthrough? Most endings land somewhere between one and four hours. That's short enough to experiment, long enough that each run feels like a proper road trip. With multiple endings and a world that reshuffles each time, you'll see new stretches of road for a while.
Is it closer to an RPG or a management sim? Both, but the management side pulls harder. You're balancing fuel, repairs, money, and the moods of whoever's in the passenger seat. The turn-based encounters use RPG-style rules, but winning a fight won't matter much if your alternator gives out ten miles later.
Does it run smoothly on a Mac? The build is a Wineskin wrapper, so expect a brief delay on first launch and possibly an error window or two — just close them and the game loads. Once it's running, it's stable. People who like to keep driving torrent mac setups sometimes ask about performance. On an M4 Mac mini it's smooth, and any Apple Silicon machine should handle the pixel art without breaking a sweat.
Can I play with a controller? Keyboard works fine for everything. The game doesn't demand quick reflexes — it's a turn-based, menu-driven affair — so you won't miss analogue sticks.
Requirements
- macOS Tahoe or later (tested on a Mac mini 2024 M4)
- Apple Silicon (ARM) Mac
FAQ
Does Keep Driving run on Intel Macs?
No. The game lists ARM architecture as a requirement and was tested on an Apple Silicon Mac mini. Intel Macs are not supported.
What languages are available?
The interface supports Russian, English, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Ukrainian, French, Swedish, and Japanese. Spoken dialogue is English only.
Is the world the same every time you play?
No. The open world is procedurally generated, so the landscape and events change with each road trip.
