Description

Build 1.0 fix is the version that's been circulating. No official patch notes came with it, so treat it as a stability snapshot of the 2015 release.

Runs through Rosetta 2, not native

Not natively. The game is Intel-only, so any Apple Silicon Mac has to run it through Rosetta 2. Performance varies, but expect lower frame rates and possible stutter in big dust storms.

A gamepad tames car combat better

Standard third-person action layout. Car combat is the centrepiece, and a gamepad makes a real difference. Keyboard and mouse work, but analogue sticks give you finer control when you're ramming a war rig at speed.

Can I play it in English?

Yes. The voice track is English only, and the interface defaults to English from the install steps below. There are eight other interface languages available if you edit one config file.

A typical session: an hour in The Wasteland

You boot up outside Jeet's stronghold with half a tank of guzzoline and a Magnum Opus that pulls to the left. The first five minutes are usually admin — check the map for a scrap location, eyeball the fuel gauge, decide whether that convoy marker is worth the detour.

You drive. The road is cracked tarmac one minute and sand the next. A dust cloud on the horizon means a patrol, so you swing wide, hit the nitro and ram the lead car into a rock formation before it can radio for backup. The Opus takes a beating but the grille holds.

You spot a sniper tower. Out of the car, crouch-run to the base, shiv the first war boy from behind, then switch to the shotgun for the one on the gantry. The tower gives you a vantage point — scrap locations, a storm closing in from the east, a balloon you missed. You mark what you can and climb down before the lightning gets close.

With scrap in the boot and a dented door, you limp back to base. Twenty minutes of upgrades later, the Opus has a new ram and the harpoon finally has the range to rip a driver straight out of his seat. You head back out, because there's always one more convoy.

Steer harpooned vehicles by holding the button

• Hold the harpoon button after firing. You can steer the target vehicle slightly while the cable is attached. Useful for yanking a door off at the right angle.
• Fuel cans are everywhere. Red drums, jerry cans on the back of wrecks, even inside some camps. You don't always need to drive to a stronghold.
• Chumbucket spots threats you can't see. His panicked shouting isn't just flavour. If he yells about a sniper, start weaving.
• Storm shelters. They look like scrap shacks with a low entrance. If a storm catches you out, duck inside and wait it out instead of losing health to lightning.

Fortify the Magnum Opus in Jeet’s territory first

Don't rush the map. The Wasteland is huge and a Mad Max torrent Mac download doesn't come with a tutorial that teaches patience. Spend your first sessions in Jeet's territory building up the Magnum Opus.

Grab the harpoon early. It unlocks more scrap-gathering options than any other tool — sniper towers, scarecrows, doors on enemy cars. Once you have it, drive around looking for anything that's tied down and rip it off.

Clear threat levels in one region before moving on. Lower threat means fewer patrols, which means less time fighting and more time looting. It also unlocks fast travel, which saves you ten-minute drives across empty desert.

Keep a shotgun shell for yourself. When you're low on health and surrounded, a point-blank blast gives you breathing room faster than fists ever will.
