Description

Machinarium Collector's Edition is a point-and-click adventure from Amanita Design about a little robot trying to get home.

Out of the scrap heap

  1. Start with what you can reach. The robot lands on a scrap heap. A bath sits off to one side, and a crane hook dangles above. Click the hook to bend it, then click the bath to set things rolling. A few moments later you have a working body and can walk left into the city.
  2. Look for the odd detail. Machinarium's puzzles hide in the background. Outside the city walls, a guard blocks a bridge. He wants a bulb for his lamp. You spot one in a nearby lamppost — but you cannot reach it. A bandaged robot on a balcony above is trying to lower a bucket. Help him, and he returns the favour.
  3. Collect everything that isn't nailed down. Coins, wires, a squeezable oil can. The game never tells you what an item is for. You just carry it around until the moment clicks. A magnet on a string becomes a retrieval tool. A roll of tape fixes a broken pipe. No dialogue, no hints — just silent logic.
  4. Solve the room, not just the puzzle. To reach the city centre, you must distract three musicians playing in a square. One needs his drum repaired, another has lost his sheet music, and the third just needs to be outwitted. Each fix involves a small chain of cause and effect that spans several screens. The Black Cap Brotherhood thugs patrol nearby, so you learn to time your movements.
  5. Rescue and escape. The mayor is trapped in a locked room, and your girlfriend is held in a kitchen, forced to cook. Freeing both means rewiring security panels, deciphering a visual code from a book of hints, and combining odd machine parts. The ending ties everything together without a single spoken word.

The game runs on Intel Macs and needs a 64-bit system. The Collector's Edition adds nothing mechanical — just the complete story, the visual art that won an IGF award, and a soundtrack of music only. Worth it if you like puzzles that let you figure things out alone.
